Pathways to Unity - The next stage in the journey in the Call to be One Church

compassOnce a year the member churches of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland gather for the Senior Representatives Forum, which provides an opportunity to reflect together on ecumenism across the four nations over the last year and to look ahead at opportunities for the future. The 2010 forum took place in Manchester in May and focused on the next stage on our journey towards full visible unity. The main presentations by Monsignor Mark Langham of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity and the Revd Canon Dr John Gibaut, Director of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, are now available for download. Foundations for Mission - A study of language, theology and praxis from the UK and Ireland perspective

Foundations for MissionThis new publication is now available in book form and will shortly available on the CTBI website to download. Christians talk about mission a great deal and it is on every dynamic church's agenda. But what does all this mission talk have to do with God and with what Christians actually do? As part of the study process of the 2010 Edinburgh World Mission Conference, this book examines the relationship of language, theology and praxis in the UK and Ireland. The research group asked churches, agencies and other mission bodies to examine their underlying drivers and purpose for mission. The book offers insights to all interested in the theology and practice of mission. It contains full data analysis for the serious researcher as well as useful tools for continuing mission audit and reflection. More >>

Network of churches and groups working to hold local MPs accountable

Big BenOne of the keys to restoring faith in democracy is ensuring that MPs elected at the General Election are held to account for what they do on our behalf in Parliament. Many churches played a key role during the election campaign by organising ‘hustings'. To strengthen democratic accountability across the country on a regular and on-going basis, Church Action on Poverty is establishing an MP Accountability Network which will have the potential to help keep poverty on the agenda at Westminster. New BBC Sunday morning ethics and religion programme

The BBC is launching a new ethics and religion programme to be broadcast on Sunday mornings at 10am on BBC1 from June 27th 2010. The BBC says that 'Sunday Morning Live' will take its topical subject matter seriously, but issues will be tackled in an accessible way. The programme will be a mixture of short films and discussion between the presenters and studio guests, opening out to an audience from all parts of the UK, who will come to the programme by means of phone calls, video, emails and texts.

The BBC is keen to encourage a wide range of callers with a wide range of views to participate every Sunday morning.  They would particularly like to build a list of people who are potentially interested in calling/texting/emailing/tweeting the show, whom they could then inform during the week about upcoming subject matter.  They are also building a database of people who represent charities, religious groups and campaigning organisations who are comfortable being interviewed for TV shows, either in the studio or over the phone.

Email or call 02890 338069 to register an interest or to ask for more information.

On Sunday June 6th the team is doing a not for broadcast pilot.  Anyone interested in helping out by agreeing to call in then would be very welcome.
