Changes to UK immigration policy
The Minister for Borders and Immigration, Liam Byrne, announced in a written statement to the House of Commons that he was "revoking two pieces of guidance which could have helped a handful of overstayers - people here illegally in the United Kingdom - to obtain limited leave to stay in the UK as the spouse or partner of a British citizen":
