church and society forum

The Church and Society Forum seeks to support and resource the churches as they engage with contemporary political, social and ethical issues, especially where there is a distinctive Christian contribution to be made.

Through its Secretary, the forum takes a lead in networking those who work on church and society issues in member churches across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and in sharing and disseminating information and expertise. Where appropriate, it represents the churches jointly to government, other agencies and elsewhere.

The forum has a main residential event each year, with other meetings as the need arises. These are used for the exchange of information across the four nations, hearing presentations and discussing in-depth topics which underpin the work of the churches in the Church and Society area.

Membership of the Church and Society network and participation in forum meetings is open to all member churches of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, who may nominate one or two representatives as contacts. Representatives from non-member churches or other relevant Christian organisations may also be able to participate.

The next meeting of the Church and Society Forum will take place on 22nd June 2009 in London.

Mary Gandy is the Secretary for Church and Society.
