about mission accompaniment

The process of mission accompaniment has been developed through Building Bridges of Hope (BBH) in churches in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

The aim of BBH was to discover the different ways of relating to local communities that are most effective for mission. It was set up ecumenically to help churches locally and nationally to discover best practice - and to practice it! At the end of the research period it has become the Centre for Mission Accompaniment, sponsored by the Global Mission Network of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland.

How it works

Mission Accompaniment is the process of being accompanied or receiving a skilled outsider into processes of development and change. It is an enduring process that permits sustainable change and development to take place in an environment of trust, encouragement and experience by having a friendly outsider - the companion - come alongside the local church.

The companion is not an expert telling a group what to do, just someone who encourages and accompanies the church or project in developing its mission
