We're more together...

...and less apart

Each month at CTBI brings new challenges and new opportunities. This month CTBI is holding a unique colloquium for Christian academics in partnership with University of London's specialist Theology and Philosophy college to explore concepts in Christianity and inter-faith; the outcomes of events like this help us to bring you the fresh and exciting resources that we have built our reputation upon. Enjoy this issue of our e-bulletin, which features news from our ecumenical partners. If you have any suggestions or ideas about what you'd like to see in the CTBI newsletter, please email: info@ctbi.org.uk

Remembrance Sunday poppyprayersWPCU 2012
Remembrance Sunday, 13 November 2011

The generation who remember the World Wars of the twentieth century is passing, but the act of Remembrance remains as significant as ever. A new generation will remember differently, with more recent conflicts in mind and a great awareness of new terrors and dangers. CTBI has produced a number of resources which can be used for Remembrance Services and Commemorations. The Order of Service for Remembrance Sunday is published by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and prepared with The Joint Liturgical Group of Great Britain and The Royal British Legion . A new version was produced in 2005. Resources available to download >>

Lent 2012

In Lent, Christians go on a journey of deepening reflection, prayer and discipline which leads them to the great festival of new life at Easter. In this Lent study course we are invited to think of this journey as leading towards the true freedom of living in love towards God and others, and what this freedom means for ourselves, our churches, our local communities and our world today.

We shall be taking our cue from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German theologian executed in 1945 for his part in the resistance to Hitler, whose thoughts continue to challenge us on what it means to have faith and to be the church in a dangerous world. In 1944 while in prison he wrote a poem Stations on the Way to Freedom. The 'stations' he highlighted are: discipline, action, suffering and death. His last recorded words before being taken to final trial and execution were: "This is the end, for me the beginning of life". More >>

6 weeks study course to gain confidence in the Gospel

Churches Together in England presents a six week study course, developed by Captain Jim Currin, Secretary for Evangelisation. July saw the publication of Sharing faith the Jesus way - a new book by Bible Reading Fellowship to help ordinary Christians feel more confident in sharing their faith. It is based on 6 of the best known Gospel passages like the Woman at the Well, the Man through the Roof, the Prodigal Son etc. These 6 readings can form the basis of a series useful for sermons and group discussion / study which could be run this Autumn. Sharing faith the Jesus way is backed up by The 360 Gospel of Jesus which asks the question 'What is the gospel according to Jesus?' for those who want to delve deeper. These two resources are illustrated on www.jesus360.org.uk where you will find the full notes for the 6 week course, more resources, and information about where to buy the books. More >>

Pushing at the Boundaries of Unity - New Studies for Small Groups

In 2005 the Baptist Union and the Church of England published the report of their conversations under the title Pushing at the Boundaries of Unity. The conversations focused on baptism and mutual recognition and posed a series of questions to each partner.

A set of studies, suitable for use in mixed small groups has now been produced and is based on the report. The studies are available to download free from either the Baptist Union website (http://www.baptist.org.uk (...) ) or the Church of England website (http://www.churchofengland.org (...)
